In October 2019, Frédéric Furnelle is welcomed for a week into the home of Assayuh, who lives in an isolated village, seven days’ walk from Lalibela in Ethiopia. In a particularly patriarchal rural society, Assayuh raises her two daughters and two sons alone. A Single Day tries to portray, with great modesty and honesty, the day-to-day life of this family. The black and white footage speaks for itself, sensitively and intimately capturing Assayuh and others as they go about their daily routine. If there’s any film that sets the ATFF apart from the adventure-adrenaline circuit, this is it.
