Mat Vaughan

Speaker: Mat Vaughan

Mat Vaughan is an artist, adventurer and ultra trail runner living in a Kombi between the city and the mountains. Mat’s work investigates the functionality of art, space and objects; where the three intermingle; and how they all shift when one wiggles. When not in the Kombi or studio you’ll find him running up the side of a mountain or up to his elbows in soap suds at Bright Brewery.

In 2017 Mat packed up a canvas tent designed by his 6-year-old nephew, painted ‘road safety sign yellow’ because “you need to be seen in the snow” and coated in beeswax because “it needs to be waterproof.” Then he trekked through the Himalayas in Nepal for 25 days sleeping in a tent that his nephew forgot to add door to.
